JOHNNIE HOBBS

Johnnie Hobbs III is a filmmaker, voice director, and tap dance instructor. He has worked on AAA video games Call of Duty, 2nd Chair Director for Capcom’s Exoprimal, and Fallout 76, under HALP NETWORK, HOUSE OF MOVES, and BLINDLIGHT as a voice and motion capture director. His short films have screened at several film festivals such as Pan African, Newport Beach, and Seattle Black Film Festival. His short, “Nostalgia”, was nominated for Best Short Film starring Dule Hill (The West Wing, Psych), Chloe Arnold (Syncopated Ladies), and Jason Samuels Smith. It won Best Short Film at The Cleveland Urban Film Festival and was shown on Aspire TV and SHORTS HD Channel.

A long-time tap dancer and performer from Alaska to Guatemala, Johnnie teaches as an Adjunct Dance Professor at AMDA LA, The Colburn School, and Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. He recently provided choreography for Kelly Marie Tran’s 2021 MISCAST performance for MCC Theatre, from “The Book of Mormon”. He’s been an Artist in Residence at the University of Colorado, and a guest speaker at Broadway Dance Center, Temple University, Santa Monica College, and The Art Institute of Philadelphia


Tap Dance Classes at HDC:

Middle Beginner: (Saturdays 2:30pm - 3:30pm, off the last Saturday of every month.)
Have months of prior tap training? Ready for a healthy challenge that can advance your skill level and tap terms. Time steps, paddle and roll, riffs, the irish, rudiments and other steps will be worked on and put into a combo for your fun and practice. Ya know, "funactice!"

Intermediate/ High Intermediate (Saturdays 4pm - 5pm, off the last Saturday of every month.)
Know all the basics, beginners and everything in between? Have many years of prior tap training? Wanna reach further? Cool! If you've been tap dancing for a number of years and feel confident with your skill level then come on in! We have fun! Complex but graspable rudiments, combos, call & response, etc for your "enjoypracfunknowticelegdement!"

Please read the following carefully: There is a 24 hour cancellation policy with the studio. If you need to cancel, I require 48 hours notice in advance. That way I can allow standby tap dancers to sign up for your slot. You will get a full refund. However, if you need/have to cancel at 24 hour mark, the class is non-refundable.
